32 Teams from all over Germany were grilling on Sunday May 6, 2012 at the German Grill- & BBQ-Championship 2012 in Schwaebisch Hall. At the end of course only one team could win the competition and only one team captain could win the desired title “German Grill- & BBQ-King 2012”. More than 30.000 visitors used the chance to see the best grill teams live in action at the grills and to learn, that there is more to barbecue than only Bratwurst. The “German Grill- & BBQ-Elite” had to create a multi-course menu, from starters and main courses (beef brisket, spare ribs, salmon and yes, of course bratwurst too) to sweet deserts.
Grill team „Gut Glut“ with team boss Michael Hoffmann, who was Barbecue Champion of the World in 2008 and 2009, convinced the jury in the overall counting and made first place in the competition. Michael Hoffmann, as the team Captain can now call himself proudly “German Grill- & BBQ-King 2012”. Memphis Grills would like to congratulate the whole grill team "Gut Glut" and team Captain Michael Hoffmann for this outstanding result.
Furthermore, we would also like to congratulate our other grill team “Die Sonntags-Griller” with team boss Michael Quandt from European biggest Sunday published newspaper. They made a brilliant second place in the category beef brisket.
Both teams used Memphis Wood Fire Grills™ and Natures Way Grill Pellets to barbecue their award-winning meats to perfection.

Tippy Canoe BBQ Crew and Memphis Wood Fire Grill Partner Up To Win 1st Place Overall at the 32nd American Royal Barbecue Contest (2011)
04.10.2011
Known as the “World Series of BBQ Competitions”, the American Royal Barbecue Contest is the world’s largest of its kind. Drawing more than 500 competing teams, the contest kicks off the American Royal, the premier celebration of America’s heartland.
Spreading over 20 acres, in Kansas City, the American Royal has two contests – the Open Contest and the Invitation Contest. The barbecue teams that compete in the Open consist of a combination of professional and amateur teams. Teams competing in the Invitational require a qualifying Grand Championship in a KCBS sanctioned event.
The steaks are high for the Invitational, with a Grand Champion prize of $10,000, a trophy, and an automatic five- year exemption to the American Royal Invitation Contest. This year’s 1st place winner of the Royal-Invitation was TippyCanoe, led by Joe Beland. “Unbelievable!” were the first words from Joe. “We said we were going to win the American Royal someday, I just didn’t think it would happen in two years!”
TippyCanoe team members have been passionately barbequing for years, but competing in the barbecue competition circuit for only two years. They have recently qualified for the Sam’s Club National BBQ Championship, to be held October 14-15, 2011 with total prize money of $100,000.
TippyCanoe used Memphis Wood Fire Grills™ to barbecue its award-winning meats to perfection. Most teams incur sleepless nights in an effort to maintain consistent temperatures in their grills or pits. But the Memphis Grills has a convection air system and Intelligent Temperature Control™ (ITC) that automatically maintains precise temperatures. “The Memphis performs consistently, every time,” comments Beland.
This cutting-edge technology enables the food to be left unattended for extended periods of time and provides consistent temperatures through the ITC’s regulation of wood pellets. The Memphis 3-in-1 grill, smoker, and convection oven produces temperatures from 180 to 650 degrees and supplies the perfect blend of convenience and delicious wood flavors.

Last weekend in Gronau, Germany, at the World Barbecue Championships 2011 all three teams who were supported with grilling equipment by Memphis Wood Fire Grills reached very good placements.
Despite contrary weather conditions with heavy rain and thunderstorms the TUV-certified pellet grills from Memphis Grills have proven in continuous use at the mega event, that through the excellent convection properties and easy handling, top results could be achieved.
Particularly noteworthy here: The German team, "Hela GutGlut" (Barbecue Champion of the World 2008 + 2009) won the first place at the World Barbecue Championships 2011 with a beef brisket in the category “potato and chive cheese”, which was prepared on a Memphis Pro pellet grill from Memphis Grills.
Furthermore the renowned Belgian team "Le Traiteur Matthias", who currently leads the world rankings of the World Barbecue Association (WBQA), reached the fifth place in the category “chicken with a tomato” with a Memphis Grill. In the category “sauces”, the team even won the first place.
The World Cup debutants of the team "BILD am SONNTAG", European biggest Sunday published newspaper, with team boss Michael Quandt and star chief Bernard Siener (Gourmet Restaurant "Bel Etage" in Marburg, Germany) made a respectable sixth place in the category “pork shoulder with a corn cob”. The “BAMS” BBQ-team supplied during the competitions hungry visitors with thousands of delicious sausages, - of course prepared with aromatic pellets from Natures Way on Memphis Grills.
A total of 73 teams from overall 16 nations launched on May, 22nd 2011 Gronau. Five dishes had to be presented to a trained 320-member jury. Almost 100.000 visitors were counted by the organizer, the German Barbecue Association (GBA), during the three day grill fiesta. In the end the Austrian BBQ-team “Goli & Chef Partie” became winner of the Grill & BBQ World Championships 2011 in Westphalian Gronau.
Memphis Grills says thank you to all of his three teams for their success!
